Family Violence Primary Prevention: Building a Knowledge Base and Identifying Gaps for all Manifestations of Family Violence Report

This report, commissioned by the Victorian Government and conducted by Equality Institute, provides a comprehensive literature review and analysis of primary prevention approaches to family violence across 11 communities in Australia. The communities explored include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQI communities, children, male victims, rural and remote populations, faith communities, sex workers, people with disabilities, women in prison, CALD communities, and older people.

The report highlights the diversity of experiences of family violence, the intersecting drivers and reinforcing factors affecting different groups, and the gaps in evidence that create barriers to prevention. By drawing on existing research and consultations with policy-makers and interest groups, the paper builds a critical evidence base for more inclusive, innovative, and effective policy frameworks.

Importantly, it broadens the focus beyond intimate partner violence to recognise and respond to the full spectrum of family violence.
