Preventing VAWG

Violence Against Women and Girls Reading Pack

Authored by Dr Emma Fulu for DFID in partnership with GSDRC, this professional development Reading Pack provides open access to some of the most important and reliable research on violence against women and girls from the past decade.

Intended for independent study and professional development use, the pack frames VAWG as both a profound human rights concern and a public health emergency. It brings together eight key articles covering intimate partner violence, sexual violence, harmful practices (such as child marriage and female genital mutilation), sexual violence in conflict, and the social norms that sustain these harms.

Each reading is paired with discussion questions to deepen reflection, and the collection concludes with further resources for extended learning. The pack offers a clear and accessible introduction to the complexities of VAWG while supporting practitioners, policymakers, and students to strengthen prevention, response, and policy efforts.

Equality Institute was founded in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia) on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country. We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of this land and waterways, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, as well as their elders, past and present. We extend this respect to all Indigenous peoples of this continent and its adjacent lands, recognising their cultures as the oldest continuous living cultures in human history.
