Building the World’s First Global Shared Research Agenda on VAWG and Adapting It Regionally for Greater Impact
This paper examines global funding and advocacy for the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG). While decades of feminist advocacy have brought global recognition of VAWG as a human rights violation and public health crisis, investments in prevention remain inadequate compared to the scale of the problem—despite evidence that violence can be reduced within programmatic timeframes.
The paper maps funding patterns over the past five years, analyses key donors and the size of their investments, and explores lessons learned, gaps, and opportunities in global advocacy. It also identifies strategic pathways for policymakers, donors, and practitioners to strengthen advocacy and direct resources more effectively.
By shining a light on funding trends and advocacy needs, this paper seeks to support stronger, better-resourced efforts to end violence against women and girls worldwide.
