Building the World’s First Global Shared Research Agenda on VAWG and Adapting It Regionally for Greater Impact
This report introduces the Global Shared Research Agenda (GSRA) for research into gender-based violence (GBV) in low- and middle-income countries, developed by the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) and Equality Institute with support from Wellspring Philanthropic Fund.
The GSRA was created to challenge traditional, top-down approaches to setting research priorities, and instead centre the voices of diverse stakeholders and communities most affected by GBV. It identifies critical evidence gaps, highlights priority areas for research, and provides practical guidance to help researchers, funders, policymakers, and practitioners direct resources where they are most needed.
The GSRA also serves as an advocacy and monitoring tool, advancing research that is not only equitable and inclusive, but also grounded in evidence-based, implementable solutions for prevention, policy, and practice. By rebalancing power in knowledge production, the GSRA seeks to strengthen global efforts to prevent GBV and support more just and effective responses.
Equality Institute was founded in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia) on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country. We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of this land and waterways, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, as well as their elders, past and present. We extend this respect to all Indigenous peoples of this continent and its adjacent lands, recognising their cultures as the oldest continuous living cultures in human history.
